I hold the door open for everyone I meet. I help everyone I meet. I'm not looking to get laid with everyone I meet.
This is about courtesy. If someone gets pissed over me helping them (like the old woman who wanted to hit my mom with her cane because my mom had the audacity to attempt to help the lady down the steps she was clearly having trouble with), I'll just tell them to fuck off (politely). If they hit me, regardless of age, gender, or physical condition, they'd better be ready to be hit back. Equality for all.
The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?

In today's world, 'women' are expressing their desire for equality, so I say... "Get the door for yourself, I open doors for myself. That's equality women."

For the ladies (women who want to be treated differently), I will treat them special all day long, and favor them above all men.

If I said I wanted to be equal with women on a level that I currently am not, and hadn't considered all of the implications that such a desire might include, then I'd only have myself to blame for hoping I could have my cake and eat it too.

I hold no malice toward women who want equality. On the contrary - my actions demonstrate respect for a woman's 'equality'.

I've been thinking can't I as a self identified feminist be treated like a lady AND still maintain personal autonomy as a human and be respected as an equal/superior/ proper employee in the workplace? Or must being a lady be relinquished for gender equality?
I'd say that being a lady must by definition be relinquished if we're going to get to gender equality.

I have an entirely new consideration. I think it's very appropriate for any human to seek (com)unity with another, and if that takes the form of a kind gesture, then let not gender apply. Let us treat one another the way we'd want to be treated. Isn't that the essence of 'equality' after all?

Good thread topic - it challenged my prejudices Thumb up

Damn straight. When I hold the door open for others, it is because I want to help. Gender, getting laid, etc, do not factor in.

If you women want to have your cake and eat it too, screw the guys who treat you like a lady but also respect you as an equal/superior/ proper employee in the work place. Those guys who do not respect you and/or are not chivalrous....ignore them. If every woman did this then women in general would be both respected and treated like a lady.

Bizarre theory you've got there: holding a door open = foreplay.

Negative Cato.

The theory I have is the desire for sex influences the behavior of men. If women want to be treated chivalrously and treated with respect, then women could achieve that goal by taking advantage of their ability to manipulate the behavior of men.

You might want to read (or listen to) "The Better Angels of Our Nature" - the book is opening my eyes to quite a few things. He mentions chivalry. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be, or all it was later romanticized to be either.

You should work out with your partner and friends how you want to be treated. Saves a lot of hassle.

A theist suggesting manipulation, there's a new one.
