Point taken. Although I understand "fag" as "stupid" as coming from the french word "fagot" which is a piece of wood, thus, stupid like a piece of wood, I do inherit my bad habits from a verbally violent game called Diablo II that I played for 10 years. It's not against the rules per se to use such patently offensive epithets, but it does cast a poor reflection. We have banned users in part for regularly hurling such words indiscriminately. Not a warning or threat or anything like that - I'd just hate to see things blow up over something like that.

Makes sense. I personally don't use either, but if I were going to use it it'd be in a situation where I knew everyone well enough that I know people would know how I meant it and not be offended.

I know that "faggot" is used to mean gay, but in my experience as a Canadian, it isn't really used as a sexual label. To my mind, "faggot" means a strange, annoying degenerate who needs social correction, usually at the end of a flurry of drunken fists.

Now, I've met some gay faggots. For example, I once saw one guy licking his finger in my direction and pursing his lips in an explicitly sexual way-- while I was peeing in a men's room. There really is only one way for a normal young "dude" to respond: "What the fuck are you lookin' at, faggot?"

In middle school, there was one kid who just couldn't keep his hands off of his female classmates' developing breasts. He'd literally just run up and grab them. Clearly, this is not a homosexual boy. But one of the girls' brothers correctly responded to his behavior with: "If you touch my sister again, I'm going to kick the living shit out of you-- faggot!"

And yes, the word is extremely disrespectful. It is a word which carries a sense of extreme social invalidation. But some people deserve it. Now, stop complaining about it, bitches!

Over here, fags are often to be found being smoked by bored secretarial staff standing in the rain outside their offices. Unless you're of an Oxford bent, in which case a fag probably toasted your muffin this morning.

On the other hand, supermarkets sell faggots in a thick, glutinous gravy at prices usually reserved for food.
