Qualified people please
Hi there

I am ver eager to learn more about the big bang theory. I suppose lot of you are true scientist who studied the theory and thus fathom it better. I am not a scientist but I am not really stupid, so I hope a a qualified person among you could give me lesson about the Big Bang Theory. For dummies.

Thanks

I have some anticipating questions

- Was there nothing before the Big Bang.

If there was, has the amount of the "existence" before the big bang inscreased afterwards.

That's it

Thanks in advance

There are a lot of good documentaries about it. YouTube is probably the best place to start.

I think it's a television show about a socially awkward guy. I've only seen previews so I'm not qualified.

Could you define nothing? What would you define as existence?

When you say "nothing" do you simply mean "the absence of matter"?? The absence of something? In existence do you just mean "the presence of matter"??? The presence of particles?

You need to be more specific on what you want to understand about it. The big bang theory has lots of parts to it.

Define what you mean by "existence."

There's two parts to that.

The first is that honestly, we don't know.

The second is that "before" doesn't really work with the Big Bang.
All time that we know of started with the Big Bang. So the next thing would be to ask "Is there time 'outside' or 'before' our universe? If there is, does it function the same as time inside our universe?"
And again, the honest answer is, we don't know.

I recommend this book by Simon Singh:

Amazon.co.uk

It gives the complete story of BBT, the science and the history of its discovery and development, including the fascinating people who were involved.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

We don't know. It may not even be a coherent question (if spacetime was a product of the big bang, then there is no "before" according to our understanding of causality).

Nothing is known about the state of the universe before one Planck unit of time (an infinitesimal fraction of a second), and it's entirely possible nothing can be known about it. Everything prior to that point is speculative.

Well I'm not really qualified since my specialty is law and social sciences, not really physics, chemistry or cosmology. The internet, youtube, google etc is a good place to start though
