Interesting Genetic Finding

Quote:Gene from extinct human species helps Tibetans thrive at high-altitudes

Quote:This version of the EPAS1 gene is nearly identical to one found in Denisovans, a lineage related to Neanderthals – but is very different from other people today.

Denisovans are known from a single finger bone and two teeth found in a Siberian cave. DNA testing on the 41,000-year-old bone indicated Denisovans were distinct from our species and Neanderthals.

A finger and a couple teeth. Truly remarkable what we're able to understand.

One day our computers will be able to extrapolate what a species looked like just by finding an ancient strand of hair.

Once again, science is freaking awesome.

RE: Interesting Genetic Finding
Another dumb naive question.
Why does it have be to be inherited?
Why couldn't the Tibetans DNA have evolved naturally and independently of ancestors.
The ancestors got it from somewhere also.
No God, No fear.

RE: Interesting Genetic Finding
Since this allegedly denisovans sourced gene said to be important to high altitude living is found nowhere else other than in majority of Tibetans and a small handful of Han Chinese, how do the natives south Americans of the Andes cope with living in altitude?

Why would the denisovans possess a widespread special adaptation to high altitude?

I'd be curious to know about the Han Chinese and the South Americans of the Andes.
