The country that first abolished slavery and set about to free the world from it, the country the managed to rule the largest empire of all time. The country that stood up to the nazis single handed and kept the light of democracy burning in europe, the driving force behind the industrial age , discoverers of gravity and evolution.

That's why they call it Great Britain.

pssshhhttt....wasn't so great after we beat your asses in two wars!

Pssht the war of independence was really the French against the English the Americans were bit players. Without the french blockade you would have stood no chance and the other war the punitive war were we burnt your capital to the ground and then left gracefully that war.

You do know that's not why it's called Great Britain, right? The title was originally intended as a means to distinguish the country from Brittany and then adopted formally in the two Acts of Union of 1706/7, with the merger of the kingdoms of Scotland and England. The official title since 1921 is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

Of course I know that, we have a proper educational system here, I was just giving my impression of A theist if he was a Brit.

This seems to have not come across in translation.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

From the poinbt of view of "winning" agreed. To give it a tip though, a little credit -

The War of 1812 was absolutely conclusive in several ways (one should be informing us right now)

-The notion of british naval supremecy had nothing left. British captains were going on their paper of record complaining that the americans were, essentially, cheating. That our "frigates" were actually ships of the line in disguise. They were - and we sold a few to the french as well. This was equivalent to modern day airpower. We had become a nation with a decisive technological advantage (though admittedly still inconsequential in number). They had migs, we had f18's. We trained our gunners and crews - they did not. Professionalism.

-We showed that we were a stable nation - that we could continue to exist and wage war with our capitol city on fire. I want to point out here that we see a "modern war" in this. This was our first. They weren't burning down our houses and farms (when that did happen the people involved were dealt with) - and we weren't standing at the wall of a keep trying to save some symbolic city or die in the process. Our ground forces were doing away with the idea of "bought commissions" and starting to lean on career soldiers.

-The one that should inform us now. We were an insignificant military force, ultimately. Our capitol was razed with relatively little trouble. The opposing force was powerful - and barely even noticed us. But here we are, a few hundred years later. We "won decisively" by simply continuing to exist. Honestly, that's the highest bar for a lesser force to practically achieve. Expecting more is to mythicize conflict.

The one thing I've learned from talking and listening to the right-wing is that the hallmark of being a conservative is an inability to understand the many nuances of complex issues and a desire to boil them down into black and white.

A simple ideology for simple folk.

No, I didn't miss it. In this country ass has a few different meanings. Ass can mean Donkey, and it's also the American term for arse.

The biggest thing I've learned from talking to the left-wing is that the hallmark of being a leftist is their inability to grasp reality. Their naive worldview is deeply rooted in their arrogance and their ignorance.

An ignorant left-wing ideology for naive folk.

That would be a good comeback if it weren't for the fact that you pretty much painted a self-portrait with words.

Nope. Definitely a perfect life-like portrait of the left.
