If there is no such thing as the supernatural, then how do you explain this?

No. It's because of the word private. Also free will.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

This was asked at the time actually, and Conan Doyle said that because the girl was so used to the fairies she didn't think of them as anything unusual and therefore wasn't looking at them.

When a believer wants to believe they will come up with any excuse to.

It's clearly false: why isn't the girl looking at the fairies?

Maybe she's straight?

So, the argument goes, "Here's evidence of ghosts which is evidence of an afterlife, therefore god!"

So I can say, "We have pictures of planets, therefore potential for alien life, therefore those who claim abductions are right?".

What we have are double exposures, primitive lenses and pareidolia

Quote:Pareidolia (/pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant, a form of apophenia. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.

The word comes from the Greek words para (παρά, "beside, alongside, instead") in this context meaning something faulty, wrong, instead of; and the noun eidōlon (εἴδωλον "image, form, shape") the diminutive of eidos. Pareidolia is a type of apophenia, seeing patterns in random data.

You mean to say Jesus isn't trying to communicate with people by putting his image on burnt bits of toast?

(What is particularly stupid about this is that no-one has a portrait of Jesus so wouldn't know what he looks like, plus the idiots think he'd have white skin)

The earliest yet discovered image of "jesus" from Doura Europus in Mesopotamia, mid 3d century. Pictured as a clean shaven man in a fucking toga.

But Jesus on toast should be all the evidence you need!

I loved Penn and Teller's Bullshit when they talked about celestial visitations. An image of Jesus on a glass pane in a large building.

When they went around the back the same stain was on multiple windows but they were ignored and some removed.

I guess xerox Jesus just isn't valid.

Those aren't fairies. Fairies wear boots.
