The Accidental Time Machine (SPOILER THREAD)
July 21, 2014 at 4:02 am
(This post was last modified: July 21, 2014 at 4:04 am by atheist04330.)
In 2252 the north east from new hampshire to way past massachusetts becomes a theocratic society, here had been an event billed as the Second Coming of Jesus, followed by a nuclear civil war between those who believed its veracity and those who doubted it, and with the former group taking power in the eastern part of the US. History has essentially been erased and restarted. The locals refer to the year as 71.
But it turns out that the jesus who returned is a hologram in a church made to seem real by no one being able to get near him by use of a pressure field and using the same pressure field "jesus" can move things and hit people in the room.
The center of this theocratic society is the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology but it becomes Massachusetts Institute of Theosophy...
Very creepy....

'The Accidental Time Machine' is a novel by Joe Haldeman. It sucks.

Oh ok. That makes more sense then. I was just wondering what was even going on.
I was SO worried that atheist04330 had actually accidentally built a time machine and that this was the future.

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

If you had grabbed me I probably would have lost my mind and said, "I AM NOT AN ANIMAL! I am however possibly a rock. I can't be sure."
