Atheists are so misunderstood :(
July 26, 2014 at 11:13 am
I'm grateful that this site exists. Atheists are so misunderstood, it's mind boggling.
Religion is the problem, not atheism.
Read an article in USA Today that in the US, atheists are as distrusted as rapists. I'll post the link later.
Where do they get their facts?
Sorry to ramble. I just needed to come to a place where you all GET IT.
Thanks for letting me vent! <3

Really? Sounds like nirvana. Brb...packing my bags!
It is very upsetting to me, lately. To see what religion "gets away with" and yet atheists get a bad rap?
Most days I don't think about it all, but whenever I debate Christians whether online or offline, I think that's when it creeps up. Maybe I need to let go of debating because it doesn't change anything. Idk anymore

People rarely bother to think for themselves. Its easier to just be stubborn and reactive. They just get told atheists are bad and go with it. Not much you can do about it unfortunately.

I wouldn't trust Pat Robertson with a burned out match, but maybe that is just the Godless atheist in me . . .

Hey, they get told that their fucking god poofed the universe into existence in 6 days and go with that. You have to understand that they are basically very stupid people who believe whatever the fuck they are told.

I love VISITING the UK. But I'd really rather not move in. I don't think anyone is ever really accepted as English unless they grew up there. It's a mind set. Economic freedom is rather greater here. And while you may have more atheists, you also have an officially recognized national religion.
Still . . . you do have a lovely country.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

I agree that religion is the problem and the reason that atheism has such a negative stigma. Back when I was a christian, I believed that atheists had no morals and were cold-hearted. Not proud of that!
It is what we were taught in church....because anyone who doesn't believe in our god, couldn't possibly be a good person. I never disliked them, but always felt a little afraid of them. Now I know better, and realize how incredibly ridiculous, that thought process is.

Come and live in the UK, experience a truly accepting society for atheists.

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci
"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
