"How are we here?"

"How are we here?"
I put this in the science forum because I want to suggest that: "Why are we here?" is a more religious or philosophical question, whereas "How are we here?" is a more scientific one.
I do not believe life, including human life, exists for an ultimate non-man-made purpose. So I think its more scientific to ask "How?" rather than "Why?"
Another public poll.

There is no answer to the "why" because there is no absolute "reason" for life.

Yep, we don't so much have purpose as we have potential. Our "purposes" are man-made and there is no "ultimate purpose" or "reason for life".

All I know is we are here. I don't share the arrogant faith perspective that demands the question why we are here and for what purpose? Why should there be a purpose?
We exist, then we cease to exist. That's enough for me.

Actually. Bozo got it right. Hey Bozo. You got it right. The Bible agrees. There is no purpose of it all. What a stupid weak minded spot of fucking puke to think that there is some stupid purpose. "Oh! Gee! Sign me up so I can piss that away!"

We were created to enjoy ourselves not to appease some fake God.

Look at everything around you and oddly enough. Piss that away as well.

I had an argument like this recently where someone suggested that the how of the universe being here was not something science could explain, my response was that the "why" can often be the "how" (er ...or vice versa) so it looks like you & I are on much the same page Smile

Why should we? Why would we (as a race) want to?

Daystar, can you repeat this in language I can understand? I don't get your post. You're either the bit of puke you mention or so intellectual that perhaps you can't come down to my level.

We all create (or receive) purposes in our life, and if you're like me you don't like to wander through life aimlessly. Maybe that's why some of us ponder on 'why are we here?'

Yes, its called the intentional stance and its essential for at least human survival. The by-product of this can often be in seeing intentions behind things that don't actually have intentions.
So at least some people at least sometimes think the universe has an intention/intentions behind it, and some people I guess you could say call this "God" although they very probably have other reasons for believing in God, although perhaps those reasons are often different interpretations of the same thing.
And maybe all the Bible/Koran stuff, etc, etc, are just examples of people seeing intentions/meaning in things when there isn't any.

I can't shake the feeling that nothing actually exists at all and everything you may think you are aware of is simply an illusion.

This probably comes from being brought up on h2g2 and studying too much quantum stuff!!
