Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

Is deism just another example of filling in the gaps?
If/when we work out the a biogenesis issue, will deists say: cool, now I don't have to worry about any superior conscious beings anymore.
Or has it more to do with coming to terms with believing in intelligent design without or the morality bullshit.
