Can someone help me?

RE: Can someone help me?
Maybe it's beside the point, but when hearing these claims my first reaction is usually -

1.So you're saying religion makes better dictators? Even if that were true, you know what - how about not having dictators.

2. Support for Stalin and Hitler came from peoples who were trained for centuries by religion to accept leaders, messianic prophesies and dogma without questioning. That's one important reason why itvworked so nicely.

That's right, I'm pretty sure Hitler didn't kill all those people on his own. Which god did quite a bit, I may add.
Feel free to send me a private message.

Exactly. And to say that the Germans (or in particular those active in the NSDAP or even the SS) were all atheists is a big stretch. They surely weren't. They had to believe in a kind of creation myth in which they were the chosen people. Otherwise, the whole ideological shebang of the NS regime would have had no foundation.

They abhorred the idea of evolution because it says that there are no clear-cut divisions, and in particular no qualtiative differences, between human races.

Look in the replies. You'll see that I'm discussing with him right know because he claims that Hitler was an atheist.

Because according to him:
Atheism just leads to human demi-god worship, and mass slaughter of your own people.
Remember the moron that I said i was discussing. He says that he has evidence that atheism promotes cannibalism..this should be interesting.

Quote:Hitler is about the most famous person in recent history that attempted genocide, so they don't want to think of him as a catholic that had "god with us" on the belts of his followers.

Yeah....

FYI: the guy that claimed that atheist were cannibals just blocked me to prevent me from refuting him because the info that he brought up is just…stupid.

Wait! Are you insinuating that vegetarians aren't evil? Because if you are I invite you to send a few minutes reading the redneck strike again thread...

RE: Can someone help me?
When I was an undergrad I took Prof. Gordon Mork's "Hitler and the Holocaust" class at Purdue. (Mixed level under grads and grad students.) I looked into the SS for my topic. I found a study on them that showed the SS officer class matched the general German population to 97%. This means the "average" SS officer was pretty much the average German, and that means he was avowedly religious.

The SS was in charge of the genocide machine, and that means religious Germans did the killing. Hitler may have been an atheist, we won't know 100% either way, but the killer, the men and women who lived within smelling distance of the crematoria were religious.

So, bible-thumpers, you own the Holocaust.

Why would Hitler refer to God and Christianity if Christianity wasn't socially prevalent. To influence as many purple as he could he had to address the widest audience. Like in most of Europe, Germany was predominantly Christian. What does that mean in terms of actual Christian values... the UK was prominently Christian until very recently. Yet with the same proportion of assention churches reported less that 10% membership. All of us, Christians included, stand on our actions. What motivates a person to act in a moral way? What were the motivations of those actions? It takes a strong person to go against current fashions/ trends/ thoughts. What are you doing at this moment that goes against all of your peers?

The necessary ingredient is othering the minority, then genocide is a corrollary. You need to convince yourself that, while you are a good Christian and all are created equal, turn the other cheek, blabla, them don't count because they are not human. It works all too well.

Good Christian Values haven't interfered when Americans decided that "negroes" are not the same as whites, and they haven't interfered when Germans decided that Jews (aka Jesus-killers) are to be exterminated.
