You've listed specific phobias. Homophobia falls in the category of social phobias. It's very real for some people, and it's just as irrational as some specific phobias.

A strong prejudice does seem to correlate with unreasonable fear. One of the most homophobic guys I know had a severe case of rape anxiety. I'd estimate that half the times the subject came up, without any prompting or anyone even mentioning rape, he would go into a screed about his fears regarding a possible future scenario of some hypothetical guy trying to rape him.

Quote:On the sidenote, what are some common superstitions in your country (or state if your country is huge)?.

-Never give a knife to a friend. You have to sell it, or the knife will cut your friendship.

-If you encounter a funeral procession, you must walk at least four steps with the mourners, or you'll be the next to die.

-Killing a robin will bring you bad luck forever.

-People who live within sight of the ocean never have fevers.

-If your nose itches before noon, stay in the house until sundown.

-If someone in a family dies, the youngest family member able to do must inform a beehive and a cow of the death, or faeries will steal the soul.

Tons more of these. No wonder the Irish drink.

It also literally means 'fear of man', or 'fear of mankind'.

It was a bad neologism.

Utah.

Believe it or not, Georgia is shifting demographically. It may shift from "red" (conservative) to "blue" (liberal) in a generation.

Utah. ~grinds teeth~ Horrible place to be gay! Mormons are ridiculously two-faced and petty. Holy rollers when in public groups, bigot scum when alone/in private groups.
