I'm fairly sure you're not supposed to eat light bulbs.

If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I suffer from mild SAD and have a fluorescent full spectrum bulb in my kitchen. It has made a world of difference to my mood and as a bonus I can find things in the kitchen, those mildly glowing fuckers were useless.

Planned Obsolescence is what I know about them. Perfect example of how unbridled greed can hold back progress.

Outside of this thread, I'm trying to think of conversations where this phrase might crop up.

I recently replaced practically every bulb in the house with LED bulbs. Full spectrum in the kitchen and baths, and soft white everywhere else. It cost an arm, leg and a left nut, but I am very happy with the results from both the lighting and energy use perspective. The six 9 watt (60 watt equivalent) hanging above mirror in the master bath really light the place up. The GF loves it for applying her makeup.

I really do like the very slow to brighten CFLs in the bathroom. Getting up in the middle of the night it sure is nice not to get the full solar intensity instantly.

I even think the cat likes it.

(every where else that characteristic is a drawback, but in the bathroom, fantastic!)

I don't like light bulbs. They look like the ghosts of dead pears.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
