RE: Guns for Jesus
Well I'll be damned.

After watching this, just for shits&grins I went out into my A/C and heating equipment junk-yard and looked at serial numbers. I found one on an broken compressor that read:

JMK4720884PS-147-17-ADSL4463-99HJC

Looks innocent enough. Wait! Look again --> JMK4720884PS-147-17-ADSL4463-99HJC

Psalms 147: 17!!

"He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?" HA!

But ya, Bible passages purposely put on rifle parts should be an individual soldiers choice. Passing out bibles to the people, while in uniform representing the United States of America, should be punishable by dishonorable discharge or at the least dis-uniformed, disarmed, cram a couple bibles in his hands and shove him outside the wire. Free to spread the good news of Jesus disassociated with the United States military.

I'd be taking all bets on how long he will be keeping his head.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

Oh brother. I wonder how many soldiers have even looked at the serial numbers on the sights of their guns. Does anyone think they really care? And out of those that have looked, I wonder how many figured out that the Biblical reference was there. And out of those that figured that out, I wonder how many bothered to look up the reference. It's a serial number folks. Even if one sees and recognizes the reference, there is nothing forcing a person to bother to look it up. Serial numbers are on almost every product you buy. I don't know about you all but I don't look at the serial number and check it to make sure there is no subliminal reference before I buy the product and I don't plan on starting. This whole issue is ridiculous in my opinion. Maybe it was a slow news day. Wink

When I was in Parris Island we were forced to partake in religious services. The military advocates religious beliefs and practices. So, at the same time none of this surprises me.

Those in power have leveraged mass superstition throughout history.

I'm not sure I know of it, but it reminded me of this (similar I think) quote that I like:

“Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.”

- Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)

Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from the fact that it falls in with our instinctual desires.
Sigmund Freud

Here's another funny Freud quote:
I have found little that is "good" about human beings on the whole. In my experience most of them are trash, no matter whether they publicly subscribe to this or that ethical doctrine or to none at all. That is something that you cannot say aloud, or perhaps even think.

Except it's not a serial number. It's a number of specific biblical reference branded onto thousands of weapons.

I'm not really too upset about this. I don't think this is a violation of the constitution unless they can show that the government specifically requested the biblical references. It's pretty fucked up to put those quotes on killing machines, but it's not really offensive to me. Not any more than referencing God on coinage.

I think some people are missing the point. It is unconstitutional for one and it puts our soldiers in danger. It is common knowledge that these are 'Jesus rifles'. To the Taliban it looks like the US says 'our god is better than yours.'

What part of the Constitution does this contradict? How is it making soldiers, who fight against enemies with guns as part of their job description, less safe?

If that were my gun I would know every detail of it - including the serial number. I don't my weapon being mixed up, etc.

Considering how over zealous people are, "jesus" guns makes it impossible to be viewed as neutral (or not hostile/immediate threats).
