Rediscovering Christianity

RE: Rediscovering Christianity
I don't have a belief in any gods, but I do love certain parts of religion. I see the metaphorical side of religion, that is I don't take religion literally, there is a lot of beautiful meanings woven through all the crap that has been added by those who use their religion to imprison others, I could never close myself of and follow any particular religion.

Comparing LOTR to the babble is doing a massive disservice to LOTR.

Christianity and the Bible make many internal contradictions.

Wonderful?! Seriously?

The hero comes up with the concept of eternal punishment for finite thought crimes.

I spcifically said that Tolkien outdid the Bible

THIS, for me, over-shadows any of the pretty-sounding things in the mythology and makes it all ugly.

It's like, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still Sarah Palin.

What if Tolkien lost his faith and rewrote the Bible and sold it as a work of fiction?

RE: Rediscovering Christianity
My religion is to be humble and realize that I can never know of all the mystery of the cosmos, I can look up at the stars and realize that I am one with all there is, that I am not separate from all that there is, this to me is a beautiful mystery, a mystery that science and religion can never truly know. Science and inner religion is the opposites of the same coin, to not realize this is to live life unfulfilled.

This is why I still prefer LOTR.

What I find funny though is that CS Lewis made a mythical series to be an allegorical fiction that points towards the Bible. The Chronicles of Narnia is actually far better than the Bible itself.
Why read the Bible when you have the Chronicles of Narnia
