It would then actually make sense and you could sympathise with the hero.

He basically a middle eastern Buddha in a lot of respects, religions are all aspects of the human psychology. They all hold qualities that we had to manifest into people so we can better share and understand ourselves. Religion is like an imaginary friend, great to reflect on however eventually the fantasy has to end and you need to grow up and realize that imaginary friend was you. *My opinion anyway*

I don't really get what's so great about Buddha and doubly uncertain that Buddha preached social compassion.

If more of the atheists here acted like how Christians are supposed at act during the Gospels, then you guys would be a on a roll. Since so many don't, it gives moderate Christians such as myself a significant boost.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Oh goddammit here we go again. Moderate Christianity is like moderate pacifism or moderate serial killerism. It just doesn't make sense.

Tbh I don't find Jesus or Buddha's "social compassion" to be very good. Both of them basically tell people to be peasants and live in poverty, forever. Had they urged people to end poverty and make the world a better place for all I might find them compelling, but all they really offer the true believer is poverty and misery. Imo their teachings have been a curse on normal people because of this, and a blessing for their rulers.

What is funny is that Siddhartha Gautama allegedly came from a well to do family.
The thing about poverty was carried over from Hinduism by the way. The notion that a beggar has more life than a wealthy person. I find this to be absurd of course.
