Don't know if this applies to all of them, but I dropped off some supplies at a local facility and while I was there mentioned I was willing to go buy some cat food for them and donate it, and did they have a preference ?
The nice lady there told me that they have an arrangement with a pet food manufacturer, and they can buy pet food in bulk far cheaper than I could buy a ton at Costco for. So she would appreciate the dollar value of what I was intending instead of me going out and buying some on my own.
I really appreciated her telling me that as I know they are strapped for cash most of the time, and if they can EFFICIENTLY manage the shelter, it is better for the animals, and the whole operation.
I was sure glad she told me that.
Of course, if you have a picky pet, they will gladly take what you have leftover, but for a bulk donation of food, it is best to let them handle it.
