Is Borat accurate in it's depiction cause at first I thought it was just a joke about Catholics (they worship in Latin (right?) which is gibberish :p)
Tu, caput mentulae, lingua latina non comprehendes.
They did up until the II Vatican Council. Then they switched to the national languages. Even now though, the official language of the Vatican State is Latin (even ATMs have an option for Latin).

Since they are indecipherable, how do the fellow parishioners know if God has sent them a VITAL missive or not ??
Or is the point just to fill up worship time and take some load off the pastor ???
It's part of a later forgery to gMark:
Quote: Mark 16:9-20New International Version (NIV)
[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.]
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.
12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
It's the same pile of shit that gets the occasional redneck killed by a rattlesnake.
It does not appear in the earliest variants of the NT which we have.

As per the article, you have to switch off the part of your brain that makes you think of your words. At the same time you have to switch on the physical parts that make you actually say the words. You have to focus on not thinking about your words but focus on moving your lips and tongue so you can vocalise. It's kinda fun when you do it in a setting with believers. So start practicing.
Well you're one up on me. I'm a Christian and I've never spoken in tongues ☺

Actually, when Paul wrote the first epistle to the Corinthians even he must have seen the necessity of having some form of checks and balances to keep everyone from just babbling like idiots. 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 says " If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God (NIV)." Pentecostals and many other preachers don't practice this, however. They seem to just want to show off their "abilities" at a particularly fervent "see what I can do?" moment. Maybe they should read their Bible more.
In the Christian School I attended, I was often asked if I was ready to be "baptized with the holy spirit" which supposedly means accepting the endowment of certain spiritual "gifts." Speaking in tongues is not readily a gift given to everyone. 1 Corinthians 12:10-11 states that gifts are given by the Spirit "to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines (NIV)."
People who supposedly speak in tongues rarely have translators because no one knows what the hell is being said. If there is a translator present he or she is in cahoots with the preacher and is just reaffirming whatever was being said during the sermon.

Actually an anachronism which indicates that this passage was written after the idea of speaking in tongues had been added to gMark.
For myself, I suspect that both were second century scribblings.

Now that would be tongue and cheek.
