Secularism

RE: Secularism
Religion makes it easy to sucker fools out of their money. I hate fools who have more money than me.

Why bother??
People will worship something...seems to be built into the masses.

A better question is would you strip religions of their power??
YES!! In a heartbeat.

But people llike being lied to for whatever stupid reason.

RE: Secularism
I think the best way to do that would be to publicize information about religions in the form of unbiased reports, as most participants of religion close their minds as soon as they see something anti-religious, and if we strip away all the propaganda supporting these religions, it will become obvious to a great deal more people that their various asorted religions are only a mind-crutch. There will undoubtedly always be those remaining devout ones.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

But like dandruff...most people will want a religion and spend a great deal of time and money fiddling with it. Humans love their god to be pathetic, ineffectual, external and soooo small that they can control it.

I voted under the assumption that religion was such... :S

What difference is there between religions and cults?

Wouldn't work, for the same reasons that cause creationists to reject evolution.

They prefer to believe in their little fairytales, no matter how much unbiased evidence you present.

Ahh religion, the only time you can believe that the world is other that it is.

And not be put in a mental institution for it.

RE: Secularism
Yes, but those creationists that are being presented with unbiased evidence are also subject to the propaganda of the church. If we remove the propaganda of the church, then both sides have nothing but what they present as the evidence, and the churches story doesent hold up without all the indoctrination and propaganda, except to a few highly stubborn devout ones, and christianity doesent have many of those anymore, people go to christian church now mostly out of respect for family/freinds as a social event, or they go because they have always gone, not as much because they are overly religious.

Cults usually focus on some extreme set of ideas, have a certain degree of control over their followers, a prominent leader, and are usually harder to get out of without having various family ties severed.

The Westboro Baptist Church, Scientology, Jonestown, & Lord Our Righteousness Church are/were all cults in my opinion.

RE: Secularism
I am 100% opposed to anything that amounts to thought crime.

I will argue against religion all I want. I would love it everyone stopped believing in God and religion but only if they came to that decision of their own free will, convinced with logic and reasoning not threats and laws.

That said, it's also immensely important to not let religion enjoy a special status.

The idea of making religion illegal is just as bad as blasphemy laws that attempt to silence criticism. It essentially outlaws atheism because to simply admit you're an atheist can be considered blasphemy. This is a more relevant discussion considering the abominable UN resolution recently passed regarding blasphemy.
