I've seen people called petty, hysterical, dramatic, etc. all by people who want this place to be more civil.

We're working on something, so stop being assholes for five seconds so we can feel like our time is worth it.

Opposition by itself is does not equal hysteria. However, the content of some posts on the matter IMO, amounted to as much. That’s simply my opinion, FWIW. Also, I’m not advocating for the entire forum to be more civil. I’m not always civil, and if I want to call someone an asshole because I think they deserve it, or because they pissed me off, I enjoy the privilege that AF affords me to do just that. Outside of the “Civil Discussion” subforum.

There is no Civil Discussion subforum. That's been scrapped because of the "hysteria," or rather because there was no majority feeling in either direction. You may find that we have to make the forum more "civil" on the whole to prevent this kind of bullshit from happening, and that now, you will only be able to call someone an asshole in R'lyeh.

Yep. I did a quick post count of the thread I started on sin/knowledge and there were more posts by atheists than theists. Same for the first few pages of the Acosta thread, then I quit counting.

Some people just can't stand seeing other people - both atheists and theists - having a decent conversation.

Whateverist, VulcanLogician, LadyForCamus, Aegon, Tiberius, Poca, Fat&Faithless, Belaqua, Mooney, etc... and even Khem, who I otherwise despise, was really impressing me and I was for once able to relate to some of what he was saying and see his point of view.

That always surprised me that you two didn't click, although he can be challenging. But he and I started here together and I swear if I could have just one forum member to have grown up with as a brother, he'd be it regardless of who was first born. He is brilliant and fall down funny. Plus he practices at least the second half of your motto. He is fearless. And he isn't exclusively kind but his kids all seem to like him and his wife would kick your ass if you made a move on him. (Not that a respectable lady like you would of course.)

I know. I was just highlighting my point.

Am I not welcome to my opinion on the matter?

Fair enough.

I play Fortnite with emjay several times a week. I told him about the new section, but he's only interested in mafia here for the time being.

Thanks for the update!

Yeah, that's totally why I joined in the first place. I was all, "Everyone stop having decent conversations. Let's shit on them with judgy preaching."

I don't think I've been rude to you, do you?

I was critical of what you said to Vulcan but I thought I was pretty civil about it.

I actually like you.  If you were my troubled little sister I'd still hug you on holidays at least.  You'd be an upgrade on the one I actually have.

But I still get to have an opinion and I think you were too harsh with him.

Will we as a whole forum talk about it first before any decision is enacted? Perhaps some of us may have some good suggestions.
