What's your PhD in?
Hopefully designer drugs.

Since it was said that when some left the forum recently, quietly and without raising a stink about it, that this was somehow underhanded or bad. It seemed that this time I should post in the departures thread.
It occurs to me; that despite the generous efforts of Tibs to provide a more civil environment useful for discussion (again the effort is appreciated) I am yet again feeling that little of anything beneficial or productive is coming from being a part of this community. There isn't any positive effects in either direction that I can see; to be had from staying. I'll certainly miss some people, although some probably less so; but I bear no ill will towards anyone. I consider this all an educational experience.
I'm sure that some could be expanded on from this; and that may yet be the case. It seems fitting to not do this myself, but let you make up what this all means, my motivations, and what is true. I'm moving on, and from past experience I doubt that my input would be of much utility anyway.

You make your own way and there's a lot positive that can come of discourse, civil or otherwise. It's a shame I didn't get to know you but, if you have decided to go then best of luck to you.

Same here I think. No ill will towards anyone, and nothing inherently wrong with this forum. It just isn't really my flavor, if you will. And that's ok. I met some cool people here whom I plan on keeping in touch with, and had a lot of fun many times. I'm grateful for that.
I feel like departure posts are kinda tacky sometimes, almost like the person is asking for attention or wanting someone to be like "noooo dont goooo!" But I don't want it to come off again like I'm "talking behind the forum's back" or whatever. Like when I decided to leave before without making a definitive post about it, and just talked about it with a few people privately instead.
I'll still be lurking for a while to see what the changes are, and leaving open the possibility that I'll give it a shot.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Then same to you
You make your own way and there's a lot positive that can come of discourse, civil or otherwise. It's a shame I didn't get to know you better but, if you have decided to lurk then best of luck to you.

Well I'm still curious to see how everything settles out here so I'll be lurking and reading mostly off and on. But I don't think anyone should expect anything over night, especially on a holiday weekend. Good luck.

So, no point in the hours of discussion going on in the back room?
I'm going to go count how many staff members predicted that these folks would leave anyway, in spite of our current efforts. Bye.
