Book's last line angers me. It's drippy with self-satisfied pretentiousness and sanctimony. Faith is emotion in place of evidence. It's what causes planes to crash into buildings and abortion clinics to be bombed.

I ABSOLUTLY love both the movie and the show.
Spoiler:

When I first saw the scene you speak of I thought it was a very anti God, pro atheism scene. Then after seeing the rest of the series and movie a few times, it hit me. River, as 'smart' as she was at her core was broken. She thought in fragmented logic, and it wasn't till after the events of the series and movie did she/we get to have the avaiable info to see the fragmented way her mind worked. I can go into much greater detail, but she at the time of your scene saw herself like she saw the bible, as 'broken.' She needed to be 'fixed.' She and her brother spend their whole on screen presents to this end. Till she isn't anymore. Again here the parallel between herself and the bible really stands out, to her the bible seems broken, like she is broken. In the movie events take place where we learn she is not truly 'broken.' She is fragmented. Meaning she can not make sense of her life because she does not understand yet the order in which she is to view the pieces she has been given.

The same is true with the bible. Once you let go with the preconceptions and stop listening to how other people tell you, you should make sense of the bible, and let God help you make sense of it, you like river will come back to what pastor book said.
'It's not about MAKING sense' (meaning it is not about forcing the 'fragments' you have through the filters you have been taught to use)

'It is about believing in something, and letting that belief be strong enought to change your life. You don't fix faith River. Faith fixes you.'
(Ultimately this is what river learned by the end of the movie. She came to a moment of belief/faith, and it is ultimately what 'fixed' her.)
