I let the "I'll pray for you's" become a lead in to the question, "oh, do you really talk with god?" or "just at god?"

"praying for someone" is a christians way of A) saying I am in a better situation than you...suck it or B) This sounds like good gossip, tell me more and I will pray for you.

You're wrong about why people pray for you. They do so because they want the best for you. We pray for everybody, fellow christians, non-christians, friends, enemies, ourselves and on and on. One point I've never had explained is why the person doing the praying needs to say that they are praying. If the praying has any effect at all, it's going to have it whether or not I know you're doing it. The only reason I have ever found for this peculiar habit is to give the prayor the chance to show that they are at least concerned about the prayee, in a childish "fuck your problems - look at me, what I'm doing for you" kind of way.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
