RE: Anyone know a good recent western rpg?

I did a quick look on TV tropes, and it seems Fallout 2 expanded on 1, so I may start with 2. Baldur's Gate seems interesting too. It talked about the characters being fleshed out and interacting with each other, which is good. I like it when my followers have actual personal stories, instead of just being support/pack mules. That's why Magnus and Virgil are my two favorite followers in Arcanum, though they don't interact with each other much after Magnus' initial quest, despite there being a great opportunity in Caladon.

Have you tried it with the Morrowind Graphics Extender installed?
It's worth another playthru with it.

Yeah, you'd really like Baldur's Gate & Dragon Age: Origins. Probably Planescape: Torment as well.

No, I haven't, but I will. I played the original Tomb Raider recently with a graphics upgrade, not the re-release but a fan-generated upgrade through the Glidos sim. Really good fun.
Thanks for that!!

You may also want to give the Morrowind Code Patch & Tamriel Rebuilt a shot with the Graphics Extender.

How does this compare with the existing landscapes in Oblivion, Skyrim and now ESO?

Well they aren't the same regions as Oblivion, Vvardenfell has gone boom by the start of Skyrim & I know nothing about ESO as I don't play MMOs. You could probably ask on the Tamriel Rebuilt forums and get a better answer.
The Morrowind Code Patch only fixes engine bugs.

I'd also keep an eye out for The Witcher 3, which comes out in February. It looks to be amazing.

Good, the Morrowind engine is pretty glitchy. Patches didn't really help as a lot of the problems were in the gameplay sequencing so you had to trash entire games to fix them.

Yeah, the Code Patch fixes several bugs that can corrupt save games & it works with the Script & Graphics extenders.

I don't play a lot of RPG's, but from the ones I've played I prefer the Elder Scrolls series. Oblivion is my favourite. Mod it and give the game a try. There's also Skyrim and Morrowind of course.
