Breakups

RE: Breakups
Very sorry to hear that my friend. I've been through a few breakups, and I know how painful they can be. It's good to share your feelings on here, I always think talking beats bottling up.

Thanks, Rob. I'm definitely with the "vent it" view, and only try to limit my whining so that I don't put people off. I'm pretty angry at her about her recent behavior, but I've got no one to blame but myself. I let her in this far and trusted her to understand what she clearly doesn't.

She got upset at me because I spent a couple of hours this last weekend with my son, mom, and cousins -- last time we'll be together in a year -- and I didn't call her as soon as I said I would. When she texted her unhappiness, I stopped what I was doing and immediately called her, but she made her displeasure clear, and so I told her I wouldn't apologize under the circumstances.

I've tried a hell of a lot to meet her halfway with her criticisms of me, but I'll be goddamned if I apologize for spending a couple of hours with family I'm not going to see again for a long while.

We had a long text-argument tonight, and I know for a fact that we're done. Shit happens. I'll be more careful next time, and more skeptical.

You're always welcome to whine to me as much as you like, via PM if you don't feel like public whining!

It sounds like a very difficult situation, but that the facts have become clear to you. Relationships are always a risk of sorts, but it seems you agree with me it's a risk worth taking. I don't regret my past relationships, and I have learned a lot from them.

Yeah, I'm not risk-averse, it's just that as we grow older we learn to assess them better, ideally; and I should have listened to my gut.

Oh, if regret killed, I'd be dead for 24 years now.
