As for the war thing, if we won't do what's necessary to win it as quickly as possible why even bother to fight? All it does is cost time, money and lives for no real purpose. So at some point in time, whether it's next year or 300 years from now, we will simply quit and will have gained nothing. Besides, how long should we try to deprive other people of their right to establish their own political systems? We've been doing that for the past 225 years and it might be time to devise a new strategy.

And, IMO, whenever we quit it'll be worse than gaining nothing. That's the sick thing about all of this. Every time we leave, we leave the region worse than it was before. We either create power vacuums that are filled by the worst kinds of people, because they're the types who are willing to do whatever necessary to seize that power, or we prop up existing assholes. Both options lead to bad ends, which lead to us having to save the region from a problem of our own making, which leads to the same kind of terrible, tenuous status quo until it blows up in our face again.

I think they know it very well. I saw an interview of Dick Cheney during the early `90s, talking about how overthrowing Sadam would divide Iraq in three pieces. They also sponsored radical groups just to overthrow Assad (shipments from Libya through Turkey), not caring about lives.

Or do we talk about "rebels", the vast majority of them not being syrians, using chemical weapons just to blame it on Assad?

Please let`s not talk about radical jihadists in this context, because the US fuels every war in the middle east. They can`t use communism anymore, so religion is the new thing.
