It doesn't speak well for Democrats' collective intelligence that, 46 years after Nixon unveiled his Southern strategy (brought to poisonous fruition by Reagan), they still haven't figured out how to appeal to large numbers of working class voters who naturally should be part of their core constituency. It seems they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Yea I agree, that has been our pratfall. I think that changed though with Obama. I think we are waking up though. The cracks are showing because we are seeing GOP polls show more and more agreement with dems, it is just that when you point out that what they have in common with you they run away from it like the plague because it doesn't fit their long term indoctrination of party loyalty.
You ask general questions without pointing out party you find much more agreement on all sorts of issues. No one wants their social security or medicare screwed with. Even on guns there are agreements on things if not everything. No one thinks the minimum wage is enough. Proven by the fact that RED states voted for it.
So it really amounts to marketing. The GOP I really think has had a personal beef long term since Nixon got caught. They have beaten the dems with long term thinking. It is apt that their party symbol is an elephant. A selfish narcissistic elephant, but still one with a long term memory.
It is just a matter of beating them at their own game, minus the lies and fear. But we can be as tough and long term thinking as they have been.
