Hello. I'm a teenager that lives in a small town in Texas. I have schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I was wondering if anyone else has either of these disorders, and if so... Can you tell me about yourself?

Before getting in 12 Steppers I was experiencing debilitating and abrupt mood swings from alcohol. It was very unpleasant, but it stopped abruptly with my starting sobriety. I always thought it was weird, but of being all the way 'up' or all the way 'down', I preferred 'down'. Transitioning either way was horrible, but didn't take too long. Unfortunately, it happened all day long.
I really feel for anyone afflicted with drastic mood swings whatever the cause. I have 1 bipolar disorder and PTSD, currently managed well through therapy. Both went untreated for decades, so I have a lot of life wreckage behind me. Doing decent now, though.

No. I usually had weeks-long cycles, and occasionally mixed states (where both depression and mania are present). The latter are the worst in my experience - when I'm just depressed, I don't have the energy to do anything really harmful, not so when in a mixed state. RE: Schizophrenia

For a long time I thought I was bipolar but was recently diagnosed with BPD (bipolar's close cousin).
BPD, coupled with major depression and general anxiety, has been a battle. Always having interpersonal problems, hour by hour mood swings, identity crisis, chronic emptiness, extreme anger, suicidal ideation, and dissociative episodes makes for a very confusing and chaotic early adulthood. Reality is often foggy and my confidence is always depleted. But luckily grounding myself in expression and using coping mechanism has made things easier. I've been in the hospital several times and met many people with bipolar and schizophrenia. Even though mental illness is difficult to deal with and is sometimes lethal, often times it has to get worse before it gets better. I've seen a lot of positivity in the mental health world though I often times fail to see it because of pessimism. But things get better and people eventually have normalized lives. It's not a matter of if you get there...but when. You're fortunate to find out about your mental health so early. I wish I had known earlier. But things do get better. It's a journey for all of us, but we can do it together.
