That's a logical fallasy!

RE: That's a logical fallasy!
Is editing your posts really looked down upon? The option is there, and there's a pretty forgiving window...? Seems silly to stop yourself from correcting your post when you notice a mistake...

Off topic, but it reminds me of these guys my buddy and I were facing in Halo: Reach. My buddy and I were really good at using the armor lock ability in tandem. One covers while the other locks and then switching roles. It was an effective bait-and-switch technique that worked sans cover. I'll never forget the taunt that one of our opponents was saying while I was locked and waiting for my buddy to arrive: "Really? You're gonna use armor lock? Really? Really? Armor lock...in Halo: Reach!?" Halo: Reach is the only game with an armor lock ability, mind you. While in close proximity you can talk to your opponents, so after he got done taunting me and while he was "humping" me, I asked him "In what other game would you like me to use armor lock?"

This all occurred within the time frame of my armor lock ability running out. My buddy ended up sneaking behind him while he was taunting me and assassinated him. I said, with all the maturity I could muster, "Really? You're gonna get assassinated in Halo: Reach?" Point being, I don't understand not using a feature when it is there at your disposal.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Lol nice Smile

Yeah, I don't know what the problem is with editing. I do do it an awful lot, but it probably wastes my own time rather than other people's. But I am happy to be called out on it.

Also, sometimes I realize I made a mistake or missed something out. I'm nearly human, after all. I guess if the worst thing someone has to say about my argument is that I edit it for clarity, I can live with that. I've never edited in an attempt to deceive anyone.

I did think I could write something amazing and poetic, hope I get kudos in the edit window from person X, then edit my post to say, "X sucks! Kudos if you agree!"

But I won't do that. I'm too busy editing all my other posts to do that.

My point is people who do what I have done to you in the last three threads sound like douchebags over the internet.

Ahah! Douchebag fallacy! Man, I thought you were better than that.

I mean, either you start as a sensible discussion and continue, or you start as an obvious parody and continue. I don't get switching over half way if your opponent is being reasonable.

Appeal to flattery!

Logical fallacies are everywhere! The fact that someone can recognize and name them doesn't make them some magic debater.

False Dilemma fallacy!

It's ironic that you defend the idea that this is an acceptable and intelligent debate option and yet use logical fallacies in almost every post. My point remains the same, you can claim I'm just repeating it (obviously true) but repeating something isn't a logical fallacy. I more think of it as drilling it into peoples head how douchey and annoying this is. I'm just as (or more) aware of the logical fallacies as you. I think the intent when most people do this is to make themselves feel smart and the person they speak to feel dumb.

I think when you point a straw man out, you should point how what was said differs from the original.

I tried to debate in a civil way, and ended it in a polite way.

You continued being a dick.

Congratulations, you win.

You did indeed prove that some people have no idea what fallacies are or how to use them in debate, and can come across as being a dick.

I gave you more than enough chances, I'm not interested in talking to you anymore.

First off, you've been a dick too. That you disguise in a thin veil of civility that you edit into your posts afterwards doesn't mean you haven't been a dick. Also I'm trying to make a point that perhaps is lost on you.

Hint: The point is not that I'm a dick who is messing around with you. It has to do with the original topic. I'll see if you can figure it out.

Edit: Isn't this the third time you've said you're done talking to me? I actually hate being discivil over the internet. However I feel, even though you have negative feelings (which I'm sorry about) about this interaction. I feel surprisingly positive about this whole thread. I actually think I may have accomplished something, however small, for the first time.

I agree, but you don't have to say "You are using a strawman fallacy" That serves no purpose other than to try to make yourself feel smart and the other person feel dumb even anybody with wikipedia can do the same thing. You can just say "That isn't my position or what I am talking about" That is the real way to be civil. It's ironic that Rob (who I bear no ill will towards) is defending what is one of the least civil forms of debate on the internet and then accusing me of lacking civility (which of course I do, because I am making a point.)
