Why Donate?

verb (used with object), donated, donating.

to present as a gift, grant, or contribution; make a donation of, as to a fund or cause:

Those of us that do donate, appreciate the work Tiberius is doing and look forward to many more years of 'atheistforums.org'.

It is not mandatory and as far as I know, we do not know who has or has not donated.

All you had to do was ignore it, if that is how you feel, and no one would have been the wiser.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

You are correct that it's not mandatory, nor do I personally think it ever would be.

As far as knowing who has - you can tell, at least those who have donated recently (in the last year or so), their username is displayed in purple, and there is a bronze, silver, or gold little trophy next to their username to indicate what level of support they gave. (In order to get credit, you have to PM Tiberius and let him know the email address you used for the donation, otherwise we have no way of knowing.)

Some have chosen to remain anonymous, including some quite generous donators.

RE: Why Donate?
I still find the entire donating thing very frustrating. I love this forum and I want to donate, but PayPal will have to take a huge percentage and money will be lost in the translation of real American money to whatever calkafoonie wanna be money Tiberius uses. And PayPal confuses me anyways. For things I donate to I usually like to do a really small monthly thing that adds up to a decent yearly donation but I can't figure out how to make that work in this format because if I donate (just an example) $10 a month then PayPal take $4 and at the end of the year instead of donating $120 to AF I would donate $72 to AF and $48 to PayPal. I don't care for PayPal and I don't want to donate to them.
Then there's also the issue of what amount would be lost in translation of American Money to wanna be dollars.

Anywho, OP, thanks for making a fool of yourself. It gave me a good opportunity to bring this up.

He uses Galactic Credits. Sure, the exchange rate is brutal, but in 500 years he'll be crazy rich!
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

For this reason, it's far better to make a single larger donation than periodic smaller ones, all else being equal.

Fortunately for us, Tiberius is a information security guru & understands that online advertisements are one of the major attack vectors for acquiring computer malware or viruses.
