Ever since I first heard about the parents with 20 children who were all given names that began with the letter, J, I have been weirdly fascinated by the Duggars.

The Father-in-law of one of their daughters wrote a rant about homosexuality that has the usual stupidity associated with it. He admits that individuals might be born homosexuality but...of course, there is a catch

The problem with the “I was born that way” mentality is that it is used as an excuse to justify sinful behavior. Someone may have been born with a predisposition towards violence and have a short temper yet that is no excuse for beating his wife. In a murder trial it would be counterproductive for the accused to have his violent temper that he possessed from birth to be revealed. It is no excuse. It is only further testimony in favor of a guilty verdict. And so it is with the excuse “I was born that way”.

I don't understand how anyone can compare two consenting adults giving one another physical pleasure with violence, anger or wife beating. How does he can view them as similar acts in anyway?

I believe he is comparing them in the frame of sin, not necessarily as all are equally bad in man's justice. He also was trying to show that if someone is born predisposed to a certain trait, one doesn't have to act upon it.

you see people love using the bible for their hatred like the KKK because they hate blacks and other minorities because anyone who isn't white is going to hell and only the whites go to heaven. killing the minorities would be doing gods work. And this is why christianity is so fucking stupid because it creates people and groups like the KKK neo nazis etc.

Groups like the KKK have not come about because of Christianity, their own evil minds have brought them to their bigoted ways. They use Christianity to justify their actions because they think it makes their ideas more acceptable. Many hate groups do this because they believe they will become more acceptable, why, because they think putting God in their equation will help their cause. Most of these people do not know what Christianity is, nor do they care.

Shouldn't this really only effect gay Christians?

In my own country, most of the population is Christian so many American Atheists will have a family member who is both gay and Christian so this effects more then just gay Christians.

It isn't as if right wing Christians leave their religion at home when they vote. The only reason that my state passed a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage is because of conservative religious people

The family follows a man named Bill Gothard. The unmarried, elderly Gothard was recently accused of inappropriate behavior with the young female staffers. Here is an article about the accusations

Gothard taught his followers that children should not eat pork, women should only wear dresses and should have long hair, couples should not limit the number of their children, adult children should remain in the parental home until they marry and that families should follow aspects of the Mosaic law. Here is a website that has some survivors from Gothardism and describe it as a cult.

The people who run the site are still Christian and appear to be very religious so you will probably agree with some of their stances; however, they point that Gothard's teaching is harmful

I was referring to Yahweh, actually. Who supposedly divinely inspired a book which commands people to commit mass murder, and said love between consenting same sex adults is an abomination.

Groups like the KKK have not come about because of Christianity, their own evil minds have brought them to their bigoted ways. They use Christianity to justify their actions because they think it makes their ideas more acceptable. And it is so very easy to use the bible to justify what the KKK stands for. Just like how Islam can be used to spread peace, but also leaves from for violent religious extremists to feel justified in their actions.

I read the article and the only thing I can say at this time is when he has his day in court I hope he gets justice one way or the other. Without knowing more about this man it's hard for me to say much.

The Seventh Day Adventist teach a similar doctrine, why these people do this I do not know. Paul teaches that eating a non- jewish diet was okay, he actually taught that the gentiles were free of many Mosaic laws, the church in Jerusalem approved this teaching, Peter, James brother of Jesus, John and other upstanding Jewish Christians ran this church.

Groups like the KKK HAVE come out because of christianity, because christianity breeds divisiveness. I'm not sure why you'd think the KKK has some misconception about christianity. Their views are just as accurate as yours, since they get them from the same book.
