Here is an interesting MMA tidbit too. The president of the UFC is an Atheist

Quote: "I don't believe in God, the devil, ghosts or any of that s---," White says. "But I'm still fascinated by religion -- how violent and crazy it is. That stuff sticks with you."

I really got into this when it was brand new. It was very interesting then because you had all these different guys with different styles and they often didn't know alot about each other's strengths and weaknesses. It was amazing watching 185 lb. Royce Gracie with his average (at best) physique take down opponents with much superior size and physique who simply could not match his fighting style. I met 260 lb. Dan Severn who Gracie defeated in UFC 4 in person and I was awed. Pictures and video don't do the man justice. Meet Severn in person and it becomes very obvious why he was nicknamed, "The Beast." You look at this man's stature in person and go, "Holy crap!"

Things evolved, of course. It became very obvious to those early combatants that if your opponent was skilled in Gracie/Brazillian Jui Jitzu and you didn't have knowledge of how to defend against it, it didn't matter what your own skills were. Might as well not bother to show up. So everybody learned to defend against it. Similarly, everyone learned the best offensive techniques. It was a logical evolution but the result is boring. Now, one fighter is pretty much the same as any other. One fight is the same as any other. It's not entertaining anymore - at least not to me.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Ha, the Royce/Severn match up has to be one of the most boring things ever, 20 minutes of Severn lying on top of Royce dry humping him.Maybe everybody knows much of the same stuff, but I would say there is far more actual variety within fighters today. In modern MMA you are starting to see the emergence of all kinds of techniques that people had once discarded and useless, even Tae Kwon Do and Capoeira kicks. You never would of seen something like this back in the original UFC:

I see where you're coming from, AFTT. In the early days the "mixed" part of MMA applied more to the mix of fighters than the fighting style. Remember that one dude with one boxing glove? Lol at least there are still plenty if amateur fights televised these days. It's not the same, but it is interesting to see what they do in situations when it's new to them.

Man, you aren't kidding, Cap. Did you see all those new leg kicks Benson was throwing at Cowboy? Dude didn't know how to check them. And even Cowboy was throwing some off kilter switch leg kicks.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Yeah, I also saw the total robbery at the end of the match! Cowboy will get his shit pushed in (again) by Pettis.

Coming up next, Gustafsson vs Rumble Johnson. Jan 24. Who do you have? It's amazing how good the cards have been starting off this year.

I'm going to predict Gustafsson wins.

As a Canadian, I have to say UFC is just not complete without St. Pierre. Cool flip kicks are nice surprises, and very entertaining, but to me St. Pierre best embodies the martial spirit: sober, a master of both tactics and strategy.

Canadians get so wet for GSP. He was amazing, that's for sure. I think he also retired at the right time. Going out on top of perfect and a sign of a true champion. I think too many people stick around until their bodies are just shot.

Footwork of TJ Dillashaw is quite nice.Switching stance and showing diversity always keeps his opponents thinking.I'd love to see someone beat him up,gawd.
It made me sad seeing how he defeated Barao though,i wanted Barao to own him, dang.

Also,it is almost funny how the fights between women are build up with so much hyper hype and the fight is usually disappointing, like Bethe vs Rousey
