Sometimes...
...even I admire this pope:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/22..._hp_ref=tw

Quote:Francis issued a blistering indictment of the Vatican bureaucracy Monday, accusing the cardinals, bishops and priests who serve him of using their Vatican careers to grab power and wealth, of living "hypocritical" double lives and forgetting that they're supposed to be joyful men of God.

Francis turned the traditional, genteel exchange of Christmas greetings into a public dressing down of the Curia, the central administration of the Holy See which governs the 1.2-billion strong Catholic Church. He made clear that his plans for a radical reform of the structures of church power must be accompanied by an even more radical spiritual reform of the men involved.

Bash 'em Frank! Bash those spoiled Italian cardinals! Big Grin

And maybe do something about the pedos, too

He's a step in the right direction, but whether he commands enough allegiance to turn such a ponderous ship as the RCC remains in great doubt.

I saw it yesterday on the news. He's at least trying to bring on some changes. But he's old and it remains to be seen, if he can wield the kind of power to actually set the rusty wheels in motion. It also depends on how many cardinals he appoints, since that will be his legacy at some time, pretty much like the Ameican president and the supreme court judges.

If he's not careful, there will be a sudden, tragic passing away in his sleep followed by an internally-conducted autopsy.

While it's true that a number of cardinals don't like him, his strenght lies in his relationship with the masses. He's reached JPII's level of popularity very easily, and you can't go anywhere in Italy without seeing pictures of him in offices, houses and shops.

Which is quite ironic, by the way.

Why is it ironic? Italy is still pretty religious after all.

It's ironic that people make money by selling keychains, mugs and posters with his face. And it's the same people who own gossip tabloids hahaha

Well, that's religion in action. Centuries ago it was relics, nowadays it's cheap tourist stuff.

Oh, but don't worry, the relic business is still thriving.

Yeah, I know. There are still rich idiots buying. I always have a good laugh when it comes to relics. Some saint even had 17 arms distributed to different churches.

There was a german author named Karlheinz Deschner. Died earlier this year at the ripe age of 90. I loved his work, since his whole career was pretty much criticism of the Roman Cahtolic church and it's traditions. He wrote several pieces about relics. I'm not sure, if he's known outside of Germany and Austria.
