I have this VHS tape with something on it ...

I'm currently recording a VHS tape that is over 20 years old to my PC.
1 rep if you can tell me what I recorded (pretty easy with the hint below).
1 rep if you can tell me approximately what day of the year I recorded (also pretty easy).
1 rep if you can guess why I'm recording this tape (somewhat difficult, but not impossible and I'll accept an answer that's close enough).
Hint 1: This tape has a famous movie on it that almost everyone has seen.
Hint 2: I had to record the film because I was not home.
Hint 3: The movie is somewhat inconsequential to why I'm recording the tape.
Hint IV: I had to borrow a VCR.

This does not sound easy. I'm going to guess CapnAwesome already guessed it for he seemed pretty confident, but just in case.
Star Wars on Christmas day. Because something unintentional was recorded that day you are trying to preserve it. Maybe a ghost was caught on tape or evidence of Bigfoot or just something unique.

The Christmas Story of 1994 was different than now because George Lucas hadn't added all that terrible CGI yet.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

hmm, well I am not too familiar or interested in movies from before I was born, but I am guessing it's a really old film which they aired recently. Considering your, umm appearance, I'd guess something like the exorcist or silence of the lambs, but I don't think those would be aired in this season. As to why you are using vcr...well maybe you don't like torrents?

I took it as he recorded the movie from TV to VHS over twenty years ago...?
