No, because Brian sodding whatever is my own personal troll for reasons I don't understand

Don't flatter yourself, I asked a simple question perfectly in line with the OP. No trolling involved.

Again: Why should we talk about this?

If I said red was red you would contend it might be blue
PS if you're about to post a reply and your response is going to be negative, improper, average, odd, obtuse, irrational, an argument, might change the focus, going off at a tangent or just mean ... go and find a maths forum to post on instead, they'll love you !!

Not a bit of it.

You seem to have a bit of trouble understanding how message boards work. This is a discussion forum. Discussion involves give and take - you asked a question that (I felt) was incomplete - you wanted to know why we aren't talking about the story you linked. In an attempt to further the discussion, I asked WHY we should be talking about it. I'm not saying we shouldn't be discussing Cantlie - perhaps we should be. I'm just asking why you think we should. It was a simple, civil, pertinent question.

Additionally, you seem to think I'm picking on you, or even stalking you. It may surprise you to learn that I respond to what others post here - I'm not aiming at you.

Further, it appears that you take offense when people question what you post or even ask for clarification. Rather than go all snarky, maybe you could help to clue us in a bit more about what you're driving at.

Or did I miss something?

There are three possible likelihoods,

1. It's true and Western Media is totally misleading us.
2. It's false, Western Media has it spot on and he is either being coerced or has become a supporter of Isis (Stockholm syndrome?).
3. It's somewhere in-between as a mixture of truth and falsehood and we will probably never find out.

I plump for 3 and the sooner we become more critical of the media on both sides the sooner media stops being weaponised in this way.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

It is hard to imagine the hell that the hostages' families go through. There is really nothing else I can say about Cantlie's captivity except that I feel horrible for his family and wouldn't want to exchange places with them.

Quote:]But no one knew the names of the 49 Turkish diplomats, consulate employees and soldiers—including two small children—who were taken hostage by ISIS in Mosul in June. The incident was barely reported in the Western press until they were released and the full details of how and why ISIS should have agreed the release remains unclear. It is believed that more than a hundred other Turks remain in ISIS captivity

Again, how horrible for these captives and their loved ones.
