Well, I believe in intersectionality and complexity, so, false dichotomy? AIPAC is retardedly huge, and that is religious lobbying which dramatically affects politics and money (and life-or-death decisions about which states we support and which people we help oppress), equating to religiously-fueled state policy. A theocracy, IMO, doesn't have to be imposed; it can be requested by a combination of rich imperialist racist banker barons, and sheep who say yes to trick questions.
Speaking of complexity and intersectionality, when you take sides like that, and take sides like doggedly pursuing Islamic terrorist groups, but giving a relatively free pass to domestic Christian terrorist groups - and in light of the fact that international law sees Israel and the US as the world's largest terrorist states - it all becomes acceptable, or even discussable in a neutral tone,
only if one accepts as non-insane, those religious biases.
So, no, Israel wasn't anything before we supported its violent creation; so our support of it can't be about anything in its makeup, because it did not exist before our support of its illegal creation.
Naturally, Israel will be a near clone of our culture, being founded from our hand-me-downs and our research into how to create theocratic, falsely-democratic state.
So it is less about honest support, and more about two states both believing they own the other, carrying on for dishonest reasons - the US pretending it's about basic alliances and similar values while rebuffing all claims about this being a cup game of appealing to religious influence, skirting of international laws, and historical revisionism - Israel pretending it's a democracy and that its existence is about the right of return, while wallowing in revisionism, racism, and fascism, utterly duplicating the delusional, white-Judeo-Christian-supremacist, and genocidal foundation of the US.
This is the point at which it becomes necessary to mention that religions has always been two things - a foundation for communities which was semi-useful back when civilization was new, and a brainwashing tool for conspiratorial warlords who think the rest of us are their cattle and feel no need to be honest with us about anything, ever.
