Are you sure they're really that dumb? I think they're knowingly acting as con artists for the most part. I think the pope knows full well that he has no connection to a god and that he's taking people for a ride.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Although they reserve the right to have it somehow God guided and with souls etc., certain aspects of the doctrine are severely constrained by that. First and foremost, since the purpose of Jesus depends on original sin and hence on Adam and Eve as first couple, this central piece of dogma is completely at odds with evolution. Does anyone know how they officially reconcile that?

Contradiction with acknowledged reality only presents a problem if one has scruples and feel uncomfortable with ad hoc explanations.

Any guidance given to evolution might have been divine, but was appearently not inspired enough to give self-important monkey's in funny hats scruples and discomfort with ad hoc explanations.

That you actually think you are kicking anyone (other than yourself) in the teeth in that thread speaks volumes about your delusional thinking and self-image.

One nonsensical post from one unevolved monkey managed to draw the time and efforts from 4 evolved monkeys to respond that could better be spent doing, well, anything else.

This along with widespread propensity of evolved monkeys to talk to other uncomprehending animals as well suggests that no, evolution is not guided, at least not by anything with a brain.

So can you tell me how the catlicks do it?

There are several things the Catholic church believe that doesn't make sense, how they reconcile that belief with the scriptures is beyond me. You would have to ask some official in the church to explain it to you. I on the other hand will stay with a literal reading, because it makes complete sense.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
