Doesn't 2% seem awfully high, though?

RE: Interesting Pew Poll...
AAS has over 7000 members, so about 140 don't accept the evolution of humans. It sounds big but remember a PhD only improves your knowledge in one narrow field of study. So finding 140 smart religious individuals who never properly evalutated evolution seems likely.

I know the phrase "smart religions indviduals" is an oxymoron. I'm calling them smart because they can reason very well, but generally never evalutated their own beliefs.

I thought the same thing. It doesn't matter if they're non-biologists. You don't have to be a geologist to know that Earth is a sphere. Rejecting evolution is equivalent to claiming a flat Earth, IMO.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Thanks for the poll results.
It shows you can be quite educated and still be a fool.
Actually, it seems to me, given the results, that fools gravitate to the AAS more readily than the general population.

Don't ever change, prof!
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
