First Temple to Norse Gods in 1,000 years to be built in Iceland

Quote: Worship of the gods in Scandinavia gave way to
Christianity around 1,000 years ago but a
modern version of Norse paganism has been
gaining popularity in Iceland.
“We see the stories as poetic metaphors and a
manifestation of the forces of nature and
human psychology.”
Membership in Ásatrúarfélagið has tripled in
Iceland in the last decade to 2,400 members last
year, out of a total population of 330,000, data
from Statistics Iceland showed.
The temple will be circular and will be dug 4
metres (13ft) down into a hill overlooking the
Icelandic capital Reykjavik, with a dome on top
to let in the sunlight.

Loki is my favorite mythological being

Does this mean that they don't view the deities as real?

I think that they know all too well what happens when people do that.

Quote:Icelanders will soon be able to publicly worship at a shrine to Thor, Odin and Frigg with construction starting this month on the island’s first major temple to the Norse gods since the Viking age.
How completely and utterly stupid.
I have nothing else to add.

I see this as more a cultural thing than religious. Fair play to 'em.

Plus, anything that's in opposition to the major religions has value. People will see the temple and think, 'mythology'. It should plant the seed in some people that there is no difference between this and the church down the street. Except that Thor has a cool hammer, of course.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Awesome.
Let's bring Odin back in the public eye where HE belongs.

As far as I know, they didn't even have temples back then. They worshipped at natural sites. At least the Germanic tribes did and they had the same gods.
