I run Windows 8 as well. I have it on a laptop that doesn't have a touch screen, so... most of its kinda pointless. Although there was an update that made navigating much more intuitive, and that's really all I'm computer literate enough to notice a difference in. That sucks about your troubles though.

This'll be a long shot:

I have a Monoprice 10x6.5 Drawing tablet, and the pen is acting all wonky. It will start drawing while I'm just hovering over the tablet's drawing surface, but not consistently. It mainly happens while the pen is entering and exiting the detection field (that's what I'm calling it, not sure what the technical name is) of the tablet. I've read in places that I may have to uninstall and delete the drivers and reinstall, so I will probably give that a shot, but I'm so dumb with computers that I don't know when something is completely gone. I always assume some fragment of something remains somewhere after deleting and uninstalling something. So, I guess 2 things: 1) Does anybody have any experience with drawing tablets, and 2) What's a sure fire way of getting rid of some drivers?

In the File Explorer or anywhere else that you have acces to "Computer," right-click on "Computer" and choose "Manage." In the left side, click on "Device Manager."

Find your device, right-click on it and "Uninstall."

The behavior you're talking about sounds pretty normal to me. The pen is magnetic, so it will start drawing before it actually touches the surface; my understanding is that pressure affects mainly the brush width, depending on what program you're using-- there should be a draw/don't draw button, no? My daughter uses a tablet a lot, and is comfortable with it. For me it's a nightmare-- it clicks when I don't want it to click, draws when I don't want it to draw, etc. Maybe you just need practice?

Hey! Thanks for the help, Ben. I'm gonna give uninstall-reinstall a shot and hopefully things go a little smoother. You may be right; it may just be the user (most likely), but I have a hard time believing it suppose to be this way. The other wonky things besides the unwanted drawing are- it will open up a window as if I've right clicked on the mouse, and it'll randomly select either the zoom tool or the color picker, but, like you said, it clicks when you don't want it to click, and your daughter has no trouble.

I got my daughter this tablet two Christmases ago, and it's mainly sat around in that time (she's just now showed interest after watching a bunch of her favorite youtubers using gimp and photoshop), so I have reason to believe the pen may have been jostled around a bit, which sorta makes narrowing down the problem a bit more elusive.

Thanks again for the navigation help and the suggestions. I'm gonna get at it and see what happens.

It could be the stylus as well. I'd imagine those things have a shelf life, and there should be a calibration tool... *google

I've read through the resources you provided and found this:

!!IMPORTANT!! READ BEFORE DOING ANYTHING WITH YOUR TABLET: INSTALL DRIVERS FIRST! Restart computer and then plug in tablet. Lots of problems start when people plug their tablet in before installing the drivers!! If you've accidently plugged the tablet in first, Windows will force you to use it's generic crummy drivers (which is where 80% of the problems start). To get around this, access the SYSTEM RESTORE in Windows 7 and select a Restore Point that was created before plugging in your tablet. Once you've loaded the Restore Point, install drivers, restart computer, and then plug tablet in.

This is most likely the problem. Even if it doesn't fix everything, I know I plugged it in recently after my last restore you guys helped me with, which means I got rid of the drivers I installed last time. Plus, starting fresh would help narrow things down, if not solve all. Dammit, I don't want to restore. Is there a way to keep certain programs after the restore? I'll be getting rid of Unity, Construct 2, Chrome, and Gimp if I restore. Not to mention, the projects my daughter and I have worked on. Plus, a few work related things.

Well the files you can save to another device and port them back over after your restore, but likely you will lose all the programs and settings. Sometimes mobile devices have a settings backup option, but it's not likely to work with GIMP and your Unity tools. Chrome will be fine, all your extensions and settings will sync once you log in. I have no experience with Construct 2, so I'm not sure about that.

Sounds like overkill to me. I would unplug it, then do the driver uninstall / reinstall first, then plug it in and see if anything has changed.
