Serious question I guess;

the monks that immolated themselves in South Vietnam during the 60s aren't deemed to be still alive, are they ??
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Do I have to say it? They are neither alive nor dead but in a permanent state of toasty martyrdoom. As I understand the monastic rules, that kind of thing is *strictly* forbidden. Thich Nhat Hanh's Engaged Buddhism is a much saner way of political activism.
