Rewriting History: Texas Conservatives Score A Victory
Here is the article: Texas Board of Education Approves Curriculum Changes

I can't believe this is real. Are you not a Christian? Are you not white? Do you care about the first amendment? Well, fuck off and suck it up. All others in history don't exist anymore. The only people in history textbooks now will be white Christian conservatives who support the second amendment. What a load of bullshit propaganda...coming soon to a textbook near you (if you live in the United States)!

They will also be teaching that society runs best with minimum government interference (I guess students in the class who are in families that receive welfare should just commit suicide for the betterment of society). Hypocrisy will be the new curriculum. This comes as our educational system is in a most needy position due to the No Child Left Behind Act (with 1/3 of schools failing according to the standards, which leaves the poverty-ridden schools even further behind).

We've spent the last decade making students robotic test takers instead of thinkers. Now we're going to spend the next decade taking these robots and programming them to obey religious zealots. I fear for the future of our country. When it comes time for my generation to step up and take the lead after the end of the baby boomer generation, who will we be leading? And who will be the leaders? What kind of people will be elected with an extremely religious & ultraconservative majority? It doesn't take a genius to figure out.

Where will they find a book that comes up to their ideals?

Perhaps Mein Kampf?

Yet another indicator we need to move to a choice system like Europe has. Now conservatives are playing the same game liberals have played for years (manipulating text books). The reason why these officials can manipulate childhood education is because we allow them to. If the money followed the child (rather than trapping children according to geography, even where their local school is horrible) this problem wouldn't exist.... simple! Europe does it & they outperform us so dramatically it's just embarrassing. We have no excuse really. Allowing a single labor union to ruin our school system is absurd.

You want the government to wipe our noses everytime we have the sniffles like the British? Why can't the government just let us suffer and die like good Americans and the third world.

If you were responding to me; I'm not sure how anyone could think school choice is a socialistic virtue? Indeed it's quite the opposite (if you weren't responding to me then apologies).

Here's the part of the article that disturbed me the most:

The Board removed Thomas Jefferson from the Texas curriculum, "replacing him with religious right icon John Calvin."

Yes. They removed a vital figure in American History from the state curriculum.

And replaced perhaps our greatest founder (or at least in the top three) with the darth vader of Christianity (John Calvin), the brainchild of such notable movements as the puritans (and their fun little witch hunts - and of course who could forget, burning heretics at the stake ... I guess they had to have some fun). Ahh what will the hill-billies think of next?
