This is good, but empathy is in us.

Ok,
This certainly is much better behavior by Muslims, but it is much better behavior for any label. There is also lots of violence Israels justify too. There are also Jews and Muslims like this above that want peace.
My challenge to humans worldwide is to consider that the wonderful displays of compassion like this are a result of OUR EVOLUTIONARY EMPATHY and not the human invented clubs humans call religions.

I never really read up on this story but I always got the sense whenever hearing about it (the initial killing anyway) that the media almost wanted to paint this picture that Denmark and all Scandinavian countries for that matter had some kind of anti-semitic, anti immigration problem. Like the two were connected. I even saw headlines referring to Anders Breivik (whose main motive was immigration-related) and this story as though they were related somehow.
Upon reading this article, I notice the killer was born of Palestinian immigrants, and I just found out he was a radical Islamist who was involved with gangs all his life from reading a different article. His motives for his crime were not related to immigration in the slightest. But why am I not surprised at such media fuckery. These attacks had nothing to do with immigration. But cue the religionists playing the victim card and making out like their cultures are under some kind of attack from the nation they now call home. Not like we've seen that before.

Well Jews and Muslims are right that the bigotry exists, no one should deny that. I would point out to both that you cant hide behind your own pain because pain is not a patent owned by any label. So I do believe it when Jews say their is bigotry to them in Europe and I also believe it when Muslims say the same. I would also point out that events like this do happen as well, and there were also Europeans offering Muslims rides and protection after the Hebdo attack. And it was a Muslim who saved the Jews in the store.
The terms "minority" and "majority" apply to all 7 billion of us and what makes us either is location. Regardless pain is an emotion all humans feel so it is really a bad idea for anyone to think it is unique to on label or human history.
No, that is not saying "get over it". I think it is extremely important never to sugar coat the horrors humans inflict on each other.

We need more, more, more of this.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I agree.
I think the purpose here is to say you don't need to be a terrorist if you are a Muslim. Many people think Muslims are [all] terrorists but it's not true. Even I with my anti-Islam position agree on that.
I also agree with the empathy part, but I think this is about how humans can be empathic to each other regardless of things like race, religion, gender, etc, and I support that. I don't think it's possible to separate your pain from the label because your label is many times the cause of the pain.

Well Jews don't get a pass either. Their holy book also has a boss who watches over condones and or commits acts of cruelty to outside tribes. The Holocaust was a blight on humanity that should never be repeated. But now Jews fail to understand that they really are not doing anything differently to Palestine that Christianity did to Native Americans.
I don't say that because I want to wipe Israel off the map or that Islam are saints. I say that because our species logic is flawed and religion is why they do it. I am still for a secular Israel, just not a Jewish state.
Jews don't seem to understand that anti Jewish sentiment was huge in America, and you still have Christians who blame Jews for the murder of Jesus. And the Christian bible doesn't befriend Jews because all of them will make it into heaven with them. The end of the book makes a Jewish nation runner up prize for Jews.
I was just watching a clip of Hitchens explaining "How religion poisons everything" and I agree. But he said in that clip the sub title wasn't meant to be a stunt, but a statement of fact. As he right fully put it it makes otherwise reasonable people do horrible things.
So I think humans should stop chasing utopias and making boarders or loyalty oaths patents out of old books. Ann Frank was right that humans are good at heart, but that does not make a god real.

I never said Jews get a pass. I said when someone says "Jews" it's usually going to be an anti-Semitic opinion, so it's important to distinguish. The majority of people in the world are not like the population of atheist forums, in real life when someone says "Damn Jews" it's going to be a racist and anti-Semitic non religious based comment. It's not possible to know what someone means by "Jew" at first glance because there's many definitions of what Jew is supposed to be.
I agree about Israel, about 20% of the population is not Jewish. But I think Israel is a country that is supposed to safeguard Jews in case of future persecutions. You never know the future, before the holocaust no one was thinking it would exist and Jews were safe in Europe. Israel should be secular, but it will be predominantly a country run by jews the same way western countries are run by white people and African countries by black people, Japan by Japanese, China by Chinese, etc.

Wasn't saying that to you directly, was simply repeating that as a reminder to anyone reading it.
Let me add I also say "you don't get a pass" to atheists as well. I know atheists I would not want in public office and have very horrible economic views and do have the same revenge attitude as theists.
Not even the word "atheist" should be treated as a moral code, political party and or a religion. It simply means "off" on god claims.
