This is very fascinating - Simon Rattle talks about the completion of Bruckner's unfinished finale of the 9th symphony, and how it drew on the way Bruckner constructed his music.

My beloved Bose QuietComfort headphones finally died on me yesterday. Or the day before, it took me a while to figure out what was wrong. Mainly because it was still playing music but it started to sound tinny. No idea how but the sound balance is off. Classical music started to found tinny. I checked with some contemporary music and chose Guns n' Roses Welcome to the Jungle and you can just about hear Axel Rose singing in the background. It's like only the left or right channel is being played but is fed into both ear pieces in mono.
I bought these headphones in 2002 and they're great for listening to classical music. But now I have to restrict myself to listening to Sonatas of one or two instruments at the most until the new pair of Bose headphones that I have ordered arrives. Unfortunately the person I sit next to at work is a mouth breathing snorter who sucks sweets all day long and drives me nuts. So I need some way of hiding the incessant slurping noises that he makes. I'm going to open up the circuit board on the headphones and check if any of the wiring has corroded away but I am not hopeful that I can mend the headphones this time. I might try buying an old worn pair on ebay and cannibalising it. RE: (western) classical music discussion

Did you get your headphone to work? I usually avoid Bose stuff because the speakers were so hyped in the 90s, but the 'phones seem to be very good - have never used one, though.

The cable that I had previously soldered on had come out. So I resoldered it, which was more difficult this time because my near eye sight seems to be getting worse. But the balance has been restored. This time I used electrical insulation tape to keep the cable in place. I ordered a new pair Bose noise cancelling headphones the moment the previous pair broke and they should be delivered today. I'm really excited about it, they're a professional tool as much as anything because I need to be able to concentrate when programming at work. I'm really happy to have got the old pair working again though, my husband can use them on long journeys but I think it's time they were retired from active service. This time though I'll be buying spares while they are still available. The previous ear cups wore away and I needed to buy some unofficial replacements instead which were far less comfortable.

Y'all are too technical for me....
But I know what I like... and this piece is just otherworldly, to me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVpl-RNzdE4
I remember that when I had my old flip phone, I had "Aquarium" as my ringtone. Sadly, when I upgraded to my dad's iPhone, for reasons that have stumped even "Apple Geniuses", the only non-pre-installed ringtones it will allow are "Nature Boy" and something related to The Hunger Games. And, yes, I've tried buying it on the iTunes store.

I was born with the gift of laughter and a sense the world is mad.
I used to have the Finale of the William Tell Overture as my ringtone. It wasn't loud enough. Now I have the loudest and nastiest bell sound I could find.
