(western) classical music discussion

RE: (western) classical music discussion
Ah yes his 6th. I only listen to his 4th, 5th and 6th symphonies. The 6th is so tragic. I think I read somewhere (Wikipedia?) that the 6th symphony is one of the few symphonies that has a different structure. It just seems to fade out into a quiet death.

I love the second movement of his 4th symphony. It featured in one of the best Star Trek Voyager episodes where Janeway and some alien fascist were playing mind game with him. He liked Tchaikovsky and she preferred Mahler. It really made the episode.

And a few days later he himself died, which led to much speculation...

i love Tchaikovski's 2d. Great work by the double-basses in the first movement.

Also Haydn.

Once more, I find one of his sacred works particularly impressive

Definitely my favourite piece of classical music is the Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens. I first heard it as the theme tune of Jonathan Creek, which was one of my favourite shows growing up.

In addition to Haydn's symphonies and string quartets I'm particularly fond of his Trumpet Concerto

and especially his D major Harpsichord concerto....which they usually ruin by playing on a piano.

Like it!

I'm going to bed, with my favourite piece of 20th century music,
Nothing beats the version of the Berliner under Rattle in my eyes, but it's not available freely...
