RE: Read any good books lately? Rate them here
I've listened to Dan Savage's book "The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Go Get Pregnant" about how he and his husband adopted the child. I went trough total turmoil of emotions, cuz during the listen I laughed, I cried, I rolled on the floor, vomited, screamed, got electrocuted... I mean it was a wild ride. Here's an interesting sentence "Melissa named the baby David Kevin Pierce; David for her current roommate, Kevin for his biological father (a.k.a. Bacchus), and Pierce, Melissa's family name." I mean you see it's a pretty nutty ride.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Chicks in Chainmail (1995)

A number of short stories by differing authors about women warriors, all done with a comedic theme.

8/10.

Recently finished book 3 of "The Stormlight Archive" by Brandon Sanderson. It's been a hell of a ride so far. I just wish he didn't take so damned long between books. Then again, at least he has the excuse of working on other books in between, unlike some others who won't be mentioned.

The most graphic it gets is the word "tits".

The Girl on the Train 6/10 purely for the mood I was in when I read it.

I need to not be reading thrillers about murder and sever alcoholics.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

Recently finished the first three Magnus Chase books by Rick Riordan. YA fantasy has some of the best authors and titles going currently.

Just finished the first 3 books of The Witcher series. 9/10, I love their storytelling style. It doesn't seem too rushed or too long-winded (which was my problem with LOTR). The only problem is that sourcing English books in Denmark is really hard, so I'll probably have to wait until July when I have access to my public library at home to finish the series, which is going to kill me Panic

Now I'm just reading anything that looks reasonable interesting in the English section of Copenhagen's library Big Grin

Just finished reading Chimananda Ngozi Adichie's "Half Of a Yellow Sun" about the the Biafra/Nigerian war between 1967-1970.  One thing is for sure no one should ever welcome a real war with the expectation of a cleansing experience.  What a horrible, horrible thing to have lived through.  Starvation, death, insecurity and hopelessness.

I read her later book Americanah first and enjoyed that for the insights it provides into the difference between african and african american experience.  This older one was pretty different, set only in Nigeria.  People can be some mean sons of bitches to one another.

Just finished (?) An Ember in the Ashes duology. By Sabaa Tahir. Very good fantasy story set in a deep, compelling fantasy world. She seems to have wrapped up the story in these two books, but there are a number of threads to pull on for future stories, perhaps even a continuation wit another set of characters... For a debut author, it's nothing short of stunning.
