ARRRGH! I need some Facebook Detox!

RE: ARRRGH! I need some Facebook Detox!
I give a little twitch whenever I see my old classmates posting in support of Britain First or the English Defence League (both very right-wing racist groups masquerading as champions of the UK, which is bullshit talk for hatin' on black and brown people), but then I realise the unfriend button is never more than a couple clicks away.
It's your Facebook, make it work for you Wink

Exactly how did it do this?

By making the internet easily accessible and more attractive to the less gifted. At least it did coral them into one place.

...um, FB isn't the "the internet" - mass installation of broadband service made the internet more accessible and attractive.

Second, it doesn't corral stupid people into one place. It, like many other sites, simply makes stupid comments public. It is not alone in this capacity. Stay off the internet if you don't like stupid people, but don't blame a website for your inability to weed them out of your newsfeed when they give you controls to do so AND allow 3rd party plugins to finish the job.

The problem isn't FB. It's lazy people who can't be bothered to situate themselves properly on the net AND those who secretly like to keep the stupid people around because it allows them to feel self-righteous and intelligent without doing any work.

Yes, Facebook is the romance novel of literature, the McDonald's of restaurants, the Ford Pinto of cars. Mass-market, low quality CRAP. It lowered the IQ of the internet by 10 points, easy. You'll like it better here.

Well said.

Firstly, I totally agree with summerqueen - it's your facebook, it's your perogative to block or unfriend anyone who posts content you don't like.  If they are people that you want to stay in contact with on facebook you'll just have to suck it up and deal with it if you want to stay fb-friends with them.  There is also the "I don't want to see this" option and the "Unfollow" option for posts so you can control the kinds of posts you see, or not see posts from a specific person.

Secondly, welcome.

Welcome.

And I agree with the basic sentiments above. It's your FB, you get to control who has access to it.

I blocked some creepy guy just last night.

I've been needing to do that with a guy from a group we're both in who keeps messaging me.  Dodgy

I am back on Facebook after a long hiatus, just not under my real name anymore. xD New account.
