Funny you mention NASA.  Money spent there has resulted in a myriad of breakthroughs, from materials, to food/water transportation, to insulation, to new medical tech (including our modern MRI and CT scanners), to modern meteorology, to a better understanding of our planet and its place in the universe, etc.

You know that life straw, the filter that allows poor people in developing countries to drink polluted water, and the "straw" cleans it?  Guess where that technology came from.

Technology improves the lives of people, even in developing countries.  Religion does not (usually makes it worse, actually).  Go figure.

You know how cheaply we could drill wells so those people do not have to use the straws, we could help supply then with abundantly clean water.
