In my opinion, only inflicting the dubious honor of mod-ism upon posters that don't want it is the only way the system can work.

Otherwise, the site devolves into another front for the Illuminati.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Excellent point Vorlon. If a person doesn't really want it, they are actually in a better position to moderate fairly, I would think. Then again, there are pros and cons to everything.

I think typically asking to be a mod is one of the ways to ensure you don't get to be one. Just be the best member you can be, and if there's an opening for a new mod in your favorite section then they'll call you.

It's my suspicion that it's the mods who choose the mods. That's how it works on most sites, except a few commercial ones where the mods are employees. I suspect, having been a mod on other sites, that lobbying the mods is not the best way to become one. Being a frequent, reasonably polite and level headed poster is. ---- Not suggesting that the OP is not polite and level headed.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
