RE: Hello!
Welcome. I find your avatar creepy in a fun way.

Glad to hear you won't be tripping on creationism right out of the gate. That always struck me as an unnecessary albatross for theists to bear. Good on you.

I wonder if you also read the bible with a grain of salt. Holding up one particular 'holy book' and proclaiming it the inspired word of ones deity has always struck me as weird on the face of it.

Then there is the issue of certainty vs faith. I wonder if you remain mindful of your decision to believe in spite of the lack of evidence, or, if you think there are knock down arguments which should convince everyone to believe in your god.

Right out of the gate I'm calling bullshit. This guy is totally a magician. I've never had to say I wasn't. NICE TRY POE! Big Grin

Welcome to AF notamagician! Smile
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

So, how are you all doing?
Whoa. So once you throw the story of original sin out the window, what's the point of that bearded God guy bleeding out again?
(You may want to start a separate thread in the appropriate forum to expand on your answer.)

Oh non-creationist Christians, I grew up among them.  They seem to be dwindling, or perhaps the creationist contingent is getting louder.  All I know is the previously semi-sane relatives of mine have taken up the creationist banner.
Anyway, welcome NotAMagician.
I have a question for you that probably needs a thread of it's own.  You said god was not a magician.  What you think god is, if not a being the does, or even is magic?
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

RE: Hello!
As for those asking why I believe in evolution but still believe in a higher power, it's because I personally believe it's easier to believe that a higher power or "God" made everything happen in the first place, rather than that the universe created itself.

I understand why you'd want to say it's bogus, but I'm young. Younger than you think, actually. I still have lots to discover and learn.

And thanks for all of the welcomes, guys. Smile

RE: Hello!
I don't think many people believe the universe created itself. Us sceptics tend to go with "we don't know what happened". There are plenty of other alternatives, including ones we may not have thought of yet.

But anyhow, good to have you! Glad to hear you accept evolution. That is some cool beans right there. Debating people who don't accept it is tiring, mainly because they haven't got a clue what evolution is. Like, not the first clue.

It sounds like you are open to learning, and that is the key! Everyone has always got more to learn.
